RE-1 needs an amplifier to sound good.
Will cowon D2 with a very high headphone output sound good with the RE-1 or would it still require an amplifier?

Every PMP will lack power to drive the RE1s, I have the D2 and the i7 and they cannot power the RE1s the way they deserve.

The better the amp the better the RE1s will sound BTW, they are true beasts if powered properly

I have the D2 and auditioned the RE1 at a meet. I believe that the D2 does not have the power to properly power the RE1. On the other hand, I now own the RE2 and find that the RE2 is a very good match to the D2 to my ears.

That is what I found with the Cowan D2. I think that the D2 may not provide enough current, though it may have enough wattage. In any case, with the D2, the RE2 sounded better than the RE1.
