I don't know about that particular model but RCA/Thomson Lyras have a poor reputation on the net.

3 years ago I bought their first HDD MP3 player because it was cheaper than an ipod and seemed to perform the same fuction. I understood quickly why: the thing was twice as big and 3 times as heavy as my ipod, the sound quality was passable at best (noise on headphone jack, line out OK), it broke after a week and was never fixed! The shop actually refunded me because they stopped carrying the range (this was the last model they had in stock) and thomson/RCA refused to replace the product despite the fact it was still on warranty. I used the money to help finance the purchase of my 3rd gen ipod the next month, it cost me twice as much but it is still working!

I would NOT recommand any Thomson/RCA lyra product because of this poor experience. Maybe this was an isolated case and they have improved, but I have my doubts.

Beside I had a look on epinions and on 4 reviews, 2 are Ok and 2 complain of VERY serious quality and customer service issues (faulty headphone jack that was never fixed for this one http://www99.epinions.com/content_224262131332 and buggy firmware for that one http://www99.epinions.com/content_126741089924 )

BTW, thomson is the brand name that RCA trades under in Europe, The actual products are exactly the same.
