For those of you who aren't aware of this site, its a completely free to use collection of user contributed ratings and reviews on all kinds of music most of which I haven't even heard of. The best and most distinguishing feature is that there is absolutely no (or at least very marginal) bias on what types of music goes and what doesn't. Its an incredibly diverse array of tastes.

Admittedly, I've yet to write any serious reviews and have been using it mainly as a way to quantify how much I like my CDs. I'd also like to see what albums and EPs you guys consider to be masterpieces, just average or downright horrendous

.

So I'll kick it off by listing my username there: ellisly. Just do a search and my ratings should pop up. Just drop your username here and we can all see what you interested in.

Any suggestions on how we can use this resource more effectively would be great.

Intriguing site as I check around through it. As for making it a useful tool you'd have to collect basic information, like perhaps on this thread, as to basic music tastes. Someone perusing through this then could find a poster that shares their tastes and then check out there user profile there on that site.

As for the site itself being able to search for different artists gives another tool to review albums/artists/genres that you may have heard about and figure out if youd like to take the plunge into it =D

I created a profile real quick in any case, same username as here for simplicity though I just quickly jotted down artists that I could remember off the top of my head and gave simple reviews of the albums shown, with a little more time this weekend I can get more into it perhaps. My tastes lie in vocal trance and ambient.

Got a very nice collection there asmox (not that I've listened to most of your CDs, but that goes without saying

). I see that most of the CDs you've given ratings to have been 5 stars. Does that imply that you know an CD is very special straight away or you've yet to arrive at a judgement for other CDs that may also be equally as good?

A combination of both and also something else, I think.

I know exactly what I like, so I tend to be very easily impressed and also very easily put off. However, I own very little that I hate so most of the albums in my collection that I do bother to rate are rated high.

Also, I tend to only rate those albums which make a very notable impression on me, whether for the better or worse. There are hundreds of albums that I have yet to rate because I merely "like" them, lol...

My user name is superwolf. I've been using it for finding new music and the reviews/ratings for a while, but only just started rating. My taste is quite similar to yours, DJShadow (it might be more obvious to you when I've rated more music).

Come on people, I was hoping to garner more of a response, thus a good idea of tastes on Head-Fi

I'll edit my first post to show all the members and their associated usernames on rym. Post your username (plus any comments of course) and it'll be included.

This is awesome. Just used it to pick up some new metal I'd never heard of before. Looks very promising. I just joined under my [h]ard forum name, aardvark_sandwich. I'll slowly add music to it overtime. I like how it gives a chance to write reviews that don't have to be 2 sentences long. There is more space for it than a forum.
