5.5 Ipod+E500= Hiss at all volumes
5.5 Ipod+E4C= no hiss
1gen shuffle+E500= Hiss at all volumes
1gen shuffle+E4C= no hiss


Zune+E500= no hiss
Zune+E4C= no hiss

I second this. I was just looking at that, but it's a little long to casually peruse. If someone put it in a table that'd be really sweet.

That said iriver h340 hisses like [an unpleasantly loud thing] with with senn cx300's and 280 pros (not iem but low impedance...). The cx300's were enough that I couldn't even listen with them.

... I guess I'll scratch that one off the list. I'd rather not deal with impedance adapters and an external amp.

Toshiba Gigabeat MES60VK -> Etymotic ER4P = No hiss at all levels
Sony HD5 -> Etymotic ER4P = No hiss at all levels

Same results with the Altec Lansing im616.

Players I've previously owned:

iPod 5g --> definite hiss in Apple firmware w/e2c's, gone with Rockbox
iRiver h100/h300 --> definite hiss in Rockbox (never used the iRiver firmware) w/e2c's (AND barely noticeable, but definitely there, hiss with KSC-75's.)
Toshiba Gigabeat F40 --> no hiss with Rockbox (didn't use the original firmware) w/e2c's
