I've read mixed information on the sound quality of the AT woodies. Someone has even rated the w10vtg the best of AT woodies. It must be the personal preferences or system synergy.

Personally, I own 2 pairs of W2002, and the W11JPN is also coming home. I've listened to the W5000 at the Headfez, and I prefer the W2002 for its synergy with the companion HA2002.

Anyway, I'd think sampling is a better way to rank them in general. The more information we have, the better we can see how popular they are among us.

How do you rank yours or those you've heard ?

Of the AT woodies that I do own, I rank them in the following order:

1. A tie between W10VTG and W11JPN, too close to call for me as I like both of them equally. The W10VTG has excllent level detail soundstage with a sense of fullness to it's sound. The W11JPN to me has a slightly sharper level of detail which I enjoy.

2. A tie between W10LTD and W11R, not as warm or full sounding IMO as the W10VTG or the W11JPN but does have a good level of detail and soundstage. The W10LTD and W11R to me sounded nearly indentical.

3. W2002, this set of cans along with it's level of detail and soundstage also has quite a bit of headroom. It's almost as if you were in listening to music in a huge room.

4. W100, this set of cans to my ears didn't have the level of sharpness in detail which I've come to appreciate in my other vintage AT woodies. It does have a good level of detail and soundstage just not as refined or as full as the other AT woodies.

5. W1000, this set of cans just didn't synergize well with my rig. It doest have an excellent level of detail and soundstage, but came out sounding a bit bright and on the lean side with my set up.

Haven't heard the W5000 yet so I can't comment on them.

So far, the W2002/HA2002 is my favorite for vocal Jazz. The midrange is what the W2002 has to win my heart.

Yeah, someday I hope to have the opportunity to audition my pair of W2002 with the HA2002 as it has been mentioned that the both of them are an awesome pairing. The Sugden Headmaster is also said to go quite well with the W2002.

The L3000 is technically a woody too

How do they compare?

The L3000 IMO is in a league of it own when compared to the other AT woodies. When I listen to my pair of L3000s, I get the sharpest level of detail that my other AT woodies can't quite stack up against . The L3000s to my ears also has a deeper bass extension with more slam than my other woodies. Soundstage and depth in the L3000 are phenominal

The L3000 did have the sort of detail you would find on high end headphones. I must say I didn't really like them in the brief 10-15 minutes I listened to them. They weren't quite refined enough for my tastes but nevertheless a lot better than the W5000. That could all change with extended ownership if only I were not so poor.

Anyway, I'll not get in the way of this rare meeting of ATOWF

The W5000 might be the most technological advanced set of cans in the AT woodie line, but I don't think the W5000 is the most musical or best cans within the family. I had a chance to compare the W5000 and Denon D5000 side by side at Headfest, and at that moment, I'd preferred the D5000 to the W5000. The W5000 was thin and sterile compare to the D5000. It could be the known issue of fitting with my head shape. I think others might find the W5000 more competent if they fit them better.

I've read that the W11JPN is right next to the L3000, behind just because of the leather skin and the refinement in the bass department, and yet, I want to hear the W11JPN and L3000 side by side.

That isn't really an ideal setting though.

This would be my rough ranking (those I've owned in bold):

L3000
W5000
W11JPN

W2002
W1000
W10LTD

The W5k/W11 split is rather close, but ultimately for me, the W5000 is simply a more precise and transparent sounding headphone. I'd say the JPN has a more pleasing tone, but it imposed more of it's own signature onto the sound, and didn't quite scale as the W5000 did. I found the midrange bump of the W2002 to be in the wrong spot for me, as when I've listened to them, I've always found it a bit distracting (as opposed to the lovely midrange bump of the JPN). The LTD just had an overall imbalanced sound (though I've only heard them once), whereas the narrow band of exaggerated brightness on the W1000 only reared its' head on specific recordings.

I'm really want to try W10VTGs and W11JPNs although I'm really satisfied with W5000 with Fitz mod and W3000s.

Really dumb question here, but where do you find the Blue Tak for the Fitz mod?
