Yeah I still haven't done the port mod on mine, but weirdly mine make crinkling sounds when I push on the earcups same as the Mk1, and the bass audibly goes down all the way and isn't bloated, so maybe I don't need to? Anyway I'll do it eventually, plus spring mods, cause I think these sit a little too far from the ear while the Mk1 has slightly shallower pads and is about perfect.

Maybe not. Do you have the MK2? My MK2 seemed to be more sealed than my 007A prior to the mod. Less effect on the bass but still smoothed it out.

No it's a 007A, bought in 2015. I think it's the latest revision which was just appearing in Japan at the time, and I was hyped about it as I had an early 007 Mk2 (purchased in 2008 iirc) and didn't like it. I think both the Mk2 and A versions are the same now, but with Stax it's anybody's guess. Also these things are so sensitive to fit that any variation in the pads (which are handmade I think) could really affect it.

I'll post impressions post-mod when I get around to doing it.
