Raleigh, NC Headroom meet (6/12/05) pics and impressions

Here's the deal:

The new Max Balanced Amp (BlockHead successor) comes stock with the stepped atenuator. Optionally available (at goodness only knows how much more) you can upgrade to the Aps pot.

The only thing that it looks like you guys are tripping over is Drew used the word attenuator. The Alps pot is use as an attenuator in the Max---just not a stepped attenuator.

It is a cool piece of brass though.

You all fail to talk about the true star of the show- those recabled KSC-35s! Tell me what you think about those, they look outrageous!

Attenuator. Potentiometer. There all bloody volume controls. Goodness.

Anyway the Koss KSC-35 is probably the best value portable headphone there is. Does it sound like the HE90 Senn. No F'n way. But for $30 it is a blast and when you add a 75ohm resistor to control the low end and recable it. Banggggg.....Good lord what a fun headphone. I have made 2 versions Cardas and Silver Dragon. Both great. Blue Dragon will be next. These have been discontinued so buy them direct from Koss while you can

^^^
I can attest that Drew's modded KSC-35 are just plain awesome. I heard them at the previous NC meet, and loved the way they sounded out of the ipod+(white "piggyback" amp, cant remember the name). The only reason I dont own a pair is because I find them very uncomfortable.

I still can't get over that Onkyo DV-SP1000 universal DVD player! Drewbrew, no offense: you have no idea how extremely exceptional that source component of yours really is like I do. I know that machine inside and out. Free tip: patch up to the latest firmware if you have a lip-synch error while watching certain DVD-Videos immediately. It's free and contact your local authorized Onkyo dealer for a technical service station.

On a side note, the funny thing is I can afford it, but I just got a letter from the US Postal Service about an orientation workshop (the precursor to the USPS 473/473-C battery exam so I can get a much better job as a letter carrier in Hamilton, NJ; read: $$$ neighborhood) so I will hold off. The other funny thing is I have not been buying Hi-Fi gear, but I've been piling up cash for months if not a year or so.

I have to learn to ban myself from these Head-Fi meeting impressions because 1. I want to go bad, 2. I want to spend money again.

it never ends...

oops: I done found somethin' 'lil betsa: Integra Research RDV-1.1
