R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

Ask Amazon. Nothings changed on the R5. It would have been upressing to 192/24 before any way as there is little content at that Res on Amazon most is 44.1/24 , 48/24 and 96/24. Thus is how their app works it sniffs Android audio to find max for device and sets that as the rate for everything. Its not perfect nor does it sample rate shift based on content.
I'm glad someone finally said that out loud.

My R5 en route from the monthly AliExpress sale. Keeping my eye on the tracking, can’t wait to get my hands on it. Will be my first DAP since the classic iPods.

All true. Whether or not we can hear the impact of the upsampling is not clear. But the engineer in me wants the Amazon app to deliver the tracks in whatever resolution they started at.

My real beef with this app is that sometimes it can take quite a while to respond to various commands. I am sure that is related to my filling up most of a 512gb card with Amazon music (as opposed to the native HiBy app).

I think it's the app. I have zero Amazon music on my 512gb card and it still spins at least once a listening session.

anyone compared fiio m6 to the r5?
Im thinking the r5 could be too big, but there are not many options for small android daps. Have the fiio m6, and looking for another small player.
how is the bt strength?

Definitely the app, it used to get to same state on my phone when I trialled it.

I just had my first bad experience with my R5. I recently bought the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and initially used it with my old iPhone SE and had no problems whatsoever with maintaining a constant connection while walking long distances. This morning I decided to try my R5 during my walk. Big difference. Nothing but dropouts every few seconds, totally unusable. 😔

I’ll do some more tests with my other daps and report back ...

Have you tested the Bluetooth in any way before this problem?

No, I didn’t own any wireless headphones. It occurred to me I was playing a 24/44.1 alac recording when I experienced this issue at the beginning of my walk.

I’ll do some trouble shooting to see where the issue lies, but I was so disappointed especially because I really love this dap that I prematurely vented here. Sorry about that.

The iBasso DX was a DAP that had really a poor BT signal and some have said the BT signal on some R5s is a bit iffy. When I got mine I was really nervous about the BT. If you do have a weak BT signal and the BT is unusable you should be covered by the warranty. It's a pain though. For some reason DAPs don't have the same quality of BT as modern phones.

I'm curious- why spend all that money on a DAP capable of bit perfect playback with dual DACs and use Bluetooth? You're losing all of the benefit of the DAP.

Its not the best Bluetooth implementation, I found having it my pocket and walking same thing happened drop outs and that was in my garden not even a busy city centre.
