The last batch of 100 R-10's were sold for $4200 in 2003-4.

Compare that to a $600 HP1000 currently being sold for $1400-$2100 used, and a $15000 Orpheus system being sold on Ebay for $25000 plus $700 shipping. $4200 for the R-10 is fair in this supply and demand market. It is not an inflated price.

the price is high...but very fair considering this is not a mint pair...honestly if I had one I'd use it everyday and take it with me everywhere i went (yes...in a messenger bag...with other stuff)... because if I cant enjoy my music on the go (where i listen most)...whats the point?

The R-10's are not an "on-the-go" headphone. There are dozens of headphones that suit that purpose better for a lot less money.
