They're designed for DJ mixers, so it's safe to say that your eardrums will go before the phones do.

yeah these things are rated to take about 1,500mw befor they die and thats WAY beyond what the human body can take so i would say your not even really pushing the limits by far ope this helps

with underpowering them by that much, your main worry is distortion messing up the drivers, not overpowering.

Absolutely right. If your amp was clipping, it could have fried your phones. It can happen rather quickly too.
