So I absolutely love my Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohms but it's only been a few months and the velour ear pads are already starting to "crust" up from skin/hair oils and the like. I like the comfort and breath-ability of the cloth pads but I feel like I'd want something more durable. Would a set of leatherette pads for the DT770 fit on the DT990, and if so how would this effect the sound? I know leather/ettte pads in general are more for closed back cans so I'm hoping a more closed off pad won't ruin the soundstage or anything.

Also, are there any other options for non-velour DT990 pads?

Thanks!

EDIT: Link to pads I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-EDT770S-Headphone-Pads-Black/dp/B008XHU9ZS

The Beyerdynamic DT770/DT880/DT990 headphones all use the same size ear pads.
I believe your looking for the Beyerdynamic 904783 EDT770S soft skin ear pads.
Cheaper price on eBay.

How will it affect the sound, have no idea.
Might try asking on this thread.

Heya,

Those are the DT770 pads. The inner materials and composition of the DT770 pads and DT990 pads are actually different, as one set was meant for isolation and one was not.

All the pads will fit all the DT series Beyers, including the Custom One Pro's and the T70's pads. They all fit all of them. I use T70 pads for example on my DT770's (microfiber > velour for me). Like wise, you can get the leather/vinyl COP's pads for your DT990's.

It will affect sound, when you change pads. Sometimes, dramatic. Sometimes not much. The leather pads on the DT990 will affect them for sure, but since they're open, it shouldn't be too crazy different. I'm going to bet the treble gets hot and the bass gets stronger.

These leather pads will fit the DT990/DT770/DT880/etc. All of them.

Very best,
