I noticed that sometimes I get some distortion in the bass when playing some songs on my 2nd gen iPod nano -> Shure E4c. Would putting an amp in the middle of this setup help, or is this a problem with the 'phones not able to reproduce those sounds? I have the EQ set to Acoustic and the distortion is not as common, but when I set it to Bass Booster, I notice it in more of my songs.

Well, I know turning off the EQ will work. It's just that when I use my computer (foobar2000) as the source as opposed to my iPod, there's no distortion of the bass even though it's more present. So I guess the question is would the amp help because obviously it isn't the 'phones since I just answered that part of the question myself.

Given how easy the e4c is to power, it could still be that the amp section is fine but the ipod EQ is messing up the signal in the digital domain.

Only one way to find out.
