Hello,

I have used an Shure 440 for a long time now, I do like the sound I get for music listening.

I was recently been playing some fps games where it really bothered me not really knowing where people where coming from. I was thinking about buying a surround headset for less then 100 euros. However I read somewhere that with software I could get my normal earphones (the shure 440) to also hear virtual surround.

I was wondering what I should install/buy to get this to work or if I would be better of just buying a gaming headset.

Note: I have a separate mic (a cheap standing one).

Right now I use the onboard audio chip of my mobo, specs:

Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
- Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
Audio Feature :
- Absolute Pitch 192kHz/ 24-bit True BD Lossless Sound
- Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection
- Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel

Thank you for any tips.

Greetings

quick edit I also have a soundcard in my keyboard (logitech g510) but I have no idea what chip that uses.

I would say to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS, and install a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card (maybe find a used one for a good price).
Then later on maybe get the Sennheiser HD558 headphones (if your still not happy with the Shures).
