Amazon seem to be selling these headphones for $127. I was considering the top headphones in class (the 880s, 650s and K 701) but have been struggling to decide between them after hearing bad things about them all. Would it be completely stupid to shatter my future budget and order the Audio-Technicas at this price? I know that they have their fans on the forums, and they look more comfortable than any of the others I have been contemplating.

The Amazon link is for the ATH-AD700.

Note that there are two different models, the ATH-A700 and ATH-AD700, in the A Series and the AD Series. The A is closed while the AD is open.

The AD700 is decent, but not in the same class as the DT880 (both pre-'05 and '05), the HD650 or K701. It's a good, relatively inexpensive headphone for general use, music, gaming and movies. It is also light and comfortable with low clamping force. Materials quality as well as sound is not as good as the higher models in the AD Series.

I would pick the A700 over the AD700, but if budget allows the DT880-'05, DT990-'05, HD650, K601, K701 and AD2000 could be better choices.

Yeah I recently did some research on the AT's and bought the A700's as they had the best reviews and opinions next to the A900's. I dont recall seeing anyone mentioning that the AD700's are better, most ppl say the A700's are better.

Thanks for the quick response. It turns out that Amazon can't ship to the United Kingdom, and that the guys who can do so at a price that narrows the gap. You saved me some embarrassment by mentioning the difference between the A700s and the AD700s!
