Questions regarding upsampling

As I understood from the posts here upsampling an audio signal to 96KHz or 192 KHz would make it sound smoother and richer.

Now that I have a 24/96 audio card I was wondering if the upsampling can be done in software.
Is there a winamp plugin or some other software available to do this?

If I got the concept right it should not be difficult to implement it in software using FFT, right?

Yes, this is possible. Do I remember how? No. I remember reading it in one of my magazines, but I forget which one. Will look around and post again if I find it...

I think it was in CSound, but it could be something else, a VST plug-in or a Pro-Tools plug-in or something...

Try looking around here (but remember that most talk of upsampling is in the old, traditional sense, I.E. sampling frequency only, not bit-depth):
