Questions about the ASL HB1

So is the HB1 basically like a passive volume control with the tubes as the output? Would this be similar to having a passive preamp with a tube power amp for your stereo speakers? Basically it just doesn't have any gain because there is no input tube, and this requires your source to provide enough of it on its own to drive the output tubes? Short interconnects are preferred then in this case?
Then if all this is true, wouldn't the 100k input impedance be acceptable for this unit with just about any source you use with it?

I'm surprised there aren't more people buying and talking about this amp. If my assumptions asked about it in this thread are correct, it seems like an amp with a desirable topology (for low impedance cans) for a good price. I didn't expect there to be 0 replies. Do people just not care about ASL stuff anymore?
