I think that's the key. I recall finding Nordost Red Dawn to have more bass than Blue Heaven, Audience Au24 to indeed be as refined as advertised with high frequencies set back amongst the other frequencies where they were supposedly meant to be, etc. But some of these conclusions were based upon focused concentration and quick switches via a remote controlled preamplifier and a dual pair of RCA output CDP. Of course I sold them!

I would be great to have the issue at large put to bed for good. I wish someone would take that $1,000,000 challenge mentioned in the members lounge thread. . I know it's about tweaks but the ABX Comparator could be used for cables.

Now I'll get back to the business of trying to figure out the differences between my newly arrived black Memorex, Taiyo Yuden, and Mitsui Gold CD-Rs. I'm having a bast!

I am a mix and match guy myself. I wish I wasn't really, but after hearing a broad range of IC's and their sound characteristics, it's hard not to - to achieve system balance. Even with many sleepless nights and hair loss no less. Once you start rolling IC's it is very hard to find the right combination. I have told many of my friends to pick a good company and buy the best you can and never change wires. Period !!!

In my ht system I do run JPS IC's and Speaker cable, however I don't like their digital cable - I like the Cardas best

. I also believe there are better video cables out there and I have a mix of those.

IMO - What the problem is: In a certain price range, most companies have a house sound. Example: in the Cardas line say I could only go up to the Quadlink series. When I run Quad from my cd to my processor to my amp to my speakers, I predict I would end up with a Very warm sound. So I demo a Neutral Ref in the chain and things start turning around for the better. The problem is I may not be able to afford the Ref so I throw in a JPS / Nordost ect... and the sound is better for the same price as the Quad - so here we go again !!

IMO - Cardas has a great range of cables ranging from warm to neutral / brighter. If you have the funds you can mix and match with their line and balance everything out to your liking.

Just some thoughts

Do you honestly believe that these cable companies have been able to fool millions of people for years and years by selling a product that does nothing different than zip cord?

Why not, Bose has been able to fool millions for years.

I really like the headphile products, for build quality, price and sound. I'll stick with them until I find something I like a lot more.
