I just impulsively bought a AKG k160 that is listed at 600 ohm. My E11 amp is rated recommended up to 150 ohm. Is there any danger in putting a 600ohm load onto a 150ohm (recommended) amp?
Also the K160 is showing its a 2x600 ohm...... What does that mean. I've never seen a headphone 2x ()ohm is it a old marketing thing going from mono- stereo? Or is the whole headphone 1200ohm(which I highly doubt, because that would be insane) forgive the noobness. I honestly don't really ever pay attention to the impedance of headphones.

Update:
Who was Or is Sonic International Corporation? Googling turned up very little. Trademark tracking shows the 1977 listing as dead. Very sparse info

The only danger is a lack of volume and bass. I have no clue what it means by 2x600 ohm though, probably a marketing thing like you said.

The E11 should be rated up to 300 ohm on high power high gain, but those phones will probably need some more juice

Well spank me thrice and hand me to my mama. The 600ohm k160 can go LOUD direct drive from the iPhone. I thought I'd barely get a whisper with nearly maxed out volume. With the e11 it can drive them easily, eliminates the resonance(which is weird to me) and brings bass up big time. Weird these are easier to drive than the k701 lol man do I still have much to learn.
Vocals on these are amazing, hell the sound period for how old they are is shocking really lol. Now granted the k701, and the planars I have kick it's butt sq wise but still.

Sometimes it's more about sound pressure level (volume) than resistance, a k701 has a lower spl I'm guessing, even with less resistance
