Hi all,

I have a question. My current setup at home has my music streaming from my macbook pro to my apple tv, which is connected via HDMI to my LCD tv, which is in turn connected to a stereo from the tv's audio out into the stereo's aux in (using a standard rca cable), my headphones are plugged into the stereo. The question is would you expect sound quality to be lost as im basically passing the signal through the tv? Or should it maintain the same level of sound quality as if i plugged my headphones directly into my macbook pro? Thanks in advance for any help.

If the TV RCA output is a fixed level output then it might be a true pass through. If you're able to somehow bypass the TV then you could test to be sure. Comparing the headphone output of the Mac to the stereo headphone output would not be fair either. Most likely the stereo(preamp?) will have more power and sound different regardless.

In the end, if the streaming quality is low, it probably won't matter much anyway.
