I'm considering getting a zune, but need to find out a detail or two first.

1. I've heard that the zune software automatically transcodes lossless files to 128kbps WMA. Is there any way to increase the bitrate, or am I stuck at 128kbps?

2. Is folder.jpg albumart supported?

3. Okay, this one you might not be able to help me with... But white or black?

Though on the hardware player (same site above)...

Sync audio files to your Zune device
You can use the Zune software to sync audio files together with your Zune device that comply with the following standards:
• Windows Media Audio (.wma)
You can use a bit rate up to 320 Kbps. For constant bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) files, you can use a bit rate up to 48-kilohertz (kHz) sample rate.
•MP3 (.mp3)
You can use a bit rate up to 320 Kbps. For CBR and VBR files, you can use a bit rate up to 48-kHz sample rate.
• Advanced audio coding (AAC) files such as .mp4, .m4a, .m4b, and .mov files
You can use a bit rate up to 320 Kbps. For Low Complexity (LC) files, you can use a bit rate up to 48-kHz sample rate.

thats great. I guess the person who said the software only transcoded to 128kbps didn't know what they were talking about.

So... I guess the only remaining question is black or white.

hah, okay. I was thinking of switching it up and getting white just because everyone seems to be getting black, but perhaps black is the better choice.

how about brown. it looks nice.

Went with the black. I didn't really like the look of the brown personaly.

I am now fighting with the windows media lossless encoder, trying to determine why some files it outputs are shorter in length then the original. Seems to be dropping some of the silence at the end of the track.

Crap, I might be getting a zune in a few moments and all I'm thinking about is that I also just got an ipod and I'm still not done loading my 500+ cds into apple lossles on my PC, if I get the darn Zune I'm gonna have a horrible time that's all I know.

Yeah. Converting from ALAC tends to be even more of a pain because it is far far less supported than FLAC.
