this was explained by one of the members who works for shure and I cant find the thread. he also mentioned that because not all users keep their receipts, this number helps determining the date of purchase. usually, the date of purchase is not too far after the date of production.

I am also 334. Bought them last December. According to Frankcent's post, our were made during the 33rd week of 2004.
