I wonder if Alessandro MS2 can be powered well by a portable mp3 player with headphone output of 16 ohms. If not, then which headphone would you suggest for such mp3 player without an external amp. I've around $350 to spend with. I mostly listen to rock (Audioslave; Pink Floyd; Radiohead...), classical, and instrumental (Steve Vai; Joe Satriani; Andy Timmons...).

16 ohms may be too weak MS-2i. Come to think of it, 16 ohms may be weak for any headphones. Try looking at IEMs. Some IEMs are generally more easy to drive than headphones since it blocks outside noise.
