Is it a waste to buy this cable in the 1/4 size then throw the stock sennheiser 1/4 to 1/8 adapter on it?

My source is 1/8. I would rather have the cable as 1/4 since most higher end sources are 1/4 if i decide to upgrade down the road.

Generally speaking, most sources with a 1/8" output will are not high end with the exception of some very good portable amps. I would say then that the adaptor would not be the weakest link and you would not likely hear much of a difference if any at all. That said, if I was running a 1/8" output consistanly to my senns I would reterminate my cable to have a 1/8" plug. The main reason would be strain on the jack and also the possibility of decreased sound quality. 5" of solid plug hanging out of a 1/8" jack is a lot of strain on that little guy.
