Sorry about the silly post. But I'm in the market for a bass heavy headphone for my X5L and the DT770 seems to be a good choice.

But my question is, there seems to be different versions of the same model (80 ohm).

There seems to quite a few cosmetic differences. My question is, could I go wrong with either one?

The top one is the one you want to go for - that is the DT770 Professional, 80 Ohm. You can read on the side that it says pro on it versus the one below. In the USA, you can only get this version from Guitar Center, but make certain to price match it against the cheaper 250 ohm versions anyhow so you can get it for $150 at Guitar center.

which model has better SQ? 60 ohm or 250 ohm version?

The 80 ohm version sounds best.

Thank you for the info, I'm more confidence about this purchase. But one last question, It turns out I have a guitar center about 15 mins away, but i don't want to go in there looking like a fool "I read on the internet that you guys will price-match the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro "

How do you "negotiate" with them if their asking price is $200? Would they take my words for it?

Actually, I'd would in fact go in there and say you can buy them on the internet for $165, and will they match that price. I do that sort of thing all the time. I don't always get a complete match, but I get better than I would have otherwise. It once saved me $2000 on an HDTV!

Guitar Center will tell you they are the "exclusive distributor of the 80 ohm version of the DT-770's in the United States." If so, why should they price match? You may be able to pull this off, but if not, be prepared to pay the $199 and be done with it.

I checked the guitar centers web site and could not find the 80ohm versions, where exactly can one buy the 80 ohm versions? All I can find are the 250 ohm ones.

Also this ebay auction seems to contradict someones post above, are these really the 80 ohm versions? Jeeeze

What exactly is the diff between cans that are 80 vs 250 other then they are harder to drive?

Thanks!

Cletus

The photo in the ebay ad does NOT epict the current DT770 80 ohm headphones. The previous poster was correct in his "I.D." If you're interested in that auction, you had best send a message to the seller to clarify just what it is he/she is selling.

The Guitar Center apparently doesn't sell the 80 ohm. headphones through its online outlet. You have to actually call one of the stores.

I hope this helps.

They tend to go for more like $200. Headroom sells them for $229. But you can get them for less if you really work at it.

The biggest reason I can't pull myself to pay the full price is this.

I mean if you goto a car dealership, there's no reason why you can't get a discount for last year's (century) model. I think that logic can apply here.

Well all the non-pro models are indeed switchin over to that look, but I believe there are no plans to change the DT770 Pro (80 Ohm) at all, in looks or otherwise.

But really, if Guitar Center gives you a tough time about the 80 versus 250 thing, say this -

"Yes you're the exclusive 80 ohm dealer, but I can go home today and grab the 250 for near $150. I'm in the store right now tho and ready to spend cash. Let's get a sale done today right here for $150, all right?"

So have they actually pricematched for you? I'm thinking about getting 80ohm DT770s and I have a Guitar Center relatively close by.
