I have had a scratchy volume pot on one of my amps for a good while now, akways in the left channel and only when turning the volume knob. I always assumed it was from contacts on my pot but I recently noticed the tube was tilted just a bit and I re-sat the tube in the amp and lo and behold the scratchy sound is gone - can a tube not being seated properly cause that or was it concidence that the sound resolved with the tube being more firmly seated?

I have an old tube amp it happens. Try cleaning the tube sockets.
