Im putting together a parts list for the Millet Hybrid Headphone amp,and wonder about som of the parts.
Im using this part list -> http://www.diyforums.org/MILLETT_BOM_2.xls

This is my first atempt to build anything hifi related.
Will this amp work well with the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro?
Since the parts list is made for the us marked,it's troublesome to find all the parts here in norway, but i've managed to find most of them at Elfa.

But i wonder about some parts:

8x .22uF Film Cap ,i found this at elfa, but wich one is it?

http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/dyndok.pl?dok=2012664.htm
Wima, typ MKP 10

D2L/RCRDMOUSER610-1N5291 - What is this?

I have the parts list almost complete now, just have to order a Hybrid PCB.
Im also wondering about the powersupply, i looking at STEPS,how much does this cost to build in $ ? And does it work with 220V
Is it possible to use a Mascot external regulated 24V supply?

Thanks for your help

The DT-770's are reasonably easy to drive - should be good. Do you have the 250 ohm or the 80 ohm? (80ohm here)

Any .22uf film cap with the right pin spacing should work. MKP10 is probably a 3 pad spacing, but check the layout.

You can use a cap with wider spacing but you will have to bend the legs funny.

If you want to find a box cap like the Wima, other vendors include AVX and Vishay/BC.

Exactly what it says it is - a 1n5291 current-regulative diode, .56ma.

If you can't find that exact CRD, look for a J503, which will work just the same but is limited to 50v (not a problem in the Millet) and is TO-92 shaped like a transistor, but with 2 legs.

You can build STEPS With a transformer that has a 220V primary. Tangent probably has a part number suggested, check to see if you can get it in your locale.

I don't know what the Mascot supply is - any linear regulated supply with enough current capability should work.

Yes, it should.

This looks exactly right.

A steps power supply is highly recommended. I'm not using one, I'm using a TREAD + 1 amp 24 volt walwart. More info on the STEPS can be found at http://www.tangentsoft.net/elec/teps/

Hey,thanks for fast reply

EricJ: the dt 770 pro 80ohm,haven't got them yet, they are on their way

Still wondering about this one CRD 610-1N5291, they don't have this one or the J503, what should i do here?

I've found the .22uF Film Cap to use

I have no clue where to get the ALPS blue velvet pot from :/ ,buy i suppose tangent's audio ship to norway, and i have to order a STEPS board from them anyway.
How is the TREAD psu compared to the STEPS,it would be easy'er for me to build a TREAD,not so hard to get parts for it.

I mailing right now with a Norwegian tube seller, didn't have the 12AE6A tubes, but atleast they have the tube sockets.

Looks like i have most of the parts figured out

For your use there will be no difference between STEPS and TREAD. just go ahead and order the TREAD kit ($16 iirc) its a great value and goes together in like 20 min.

Tread will be your best bet as ou wont have to find the right transformer, your 24V external PSU (I assume this is a wallwart) will work just fine as long as it takes in whatever your wall votlage is (I assume its 220 VAC) and puts out 24VDC. make sure it has enough current, these things like at least 400mA

if your having trouble finding tubes theres a thread posted in DIYforums (http://www.diyforums.org/)

if you cant find the tubes feel free to PM me, maybe we can work somehting out

Tangent will most probably ship to Norway. Shipping to Finland was very fast and the shipping cost was very reasonable.

I ordered the tread kit from Tangent as it was easier way to go than the steps (Tangent doesn't offer steps kit). I bought a 1A 24VAC PS from Finland to power up the tread and it seems to work fine.

Tangent sells the Alps Blue pot, but I decided to buy the Noble pot from Michael Percy as I was anyway going to order Black gate output caps (C7) for the Millett from Percy.

The 610 bit there is part of the mouser part number - you should be searching for just 1n5291.

If you can't find either that or j503, there may be other CRDs you can use. These parts are rarely used and so availability really varies. You may just have to slog through the catalogs you can find looking for another CRD somewhere around .56ma that can handle at least 30 volts or so.

If all else fails, you can probably substitute a jfet and a resistor. Or an lm317lz and a resistor. I don't have calculations for those handy.

There are a lot of constant current source methods - CRDs are just the simplest. when you can find them.
