Hey guys. Most of the files on my pc are standard bitrate mp3s and wmas. If I were to convert a regular 128kbps file to LAME at 128kbps would I get the same result as converting flac to LAME, or would it be like converting mp3 to flac? Would there be a loss of quality?

Well since there both mp3 at the same bitrate I wasn't sure If that applied.

You will end up with files sounding worse than a straight MP3 encode from CD. Since you will lossy encode (throw away audio data) twice...

There would be a loss of quality, you need to re-rip

If you reencode the mp3 to a higher bitrate mp3 from its origional mp3 bitrate state then you essentially wont lose noticable quality. However If you were to rerip 128 to 128 then it will be noticable and thereon depending on how many times to do it. Almost like recording on a tape to tape.
