A pretty basic question, I've been to a good amount of sites that sell headphones and a lot seem to have different headphone categories such as DJ, audiophile, professional, etc... What exactly is the difference between audiophile, professional and DJ headphones?

marketing. Well, usually DJ headphones are closed, since their use requires isolation. Perhaps by professional they mean for studio use such as the v6? The v6 is a very detailed headphone for its price. For the most part, its all marketing.

I *think* professional phones are more analytical and revealing, and audiophile phones, well, can be anything I guess (neutral and accurate come to mind).

dj headphones are closed, quite heavy construction, usually with recessed highs and some mids with a largely prominent bass. and most importantly

yep... marketing... agree...
all manufacturers tend to call their phones audiophiles or professional... dont think they wanna call them beginner or laymen headphones...
dont worry so much about categorisation, just get the ones you like.
