Can someone tell me what would happen if an iMod cable was used with an unmodified iPod? Would the iPod play normally using the iMod cable as a line out dock? Conversely, what would happen if a regular line out dock was used with a 5.5G iMod? Would the iMod play at a normal volume with somewhat reduced sound quality, or would there be major loss of sound quality or damage to the iMod or amplifier? I'm curious and don't know enough about electronics to predict what would happen.

A 5g or 5.5g iMod bypasses the line out capcitors on the iPod in its alteration. As a result to prevent electrical damage from an unrestricted current the iMod dock has capacitors in the dock. They are notably larger than the iPods but do the same electrical deed.

You can use an iMod cable with an iPod but may hear sound degredation because the signal is now going through both the ipod and cable capacitors.

Generally speaking you shouldn't use a regular dock with an iMod because the iMod may damage your equipment with the unregulated electrical signal.

Check RedWine Audios, makers of the iMod, website for a better description.
