I've owned the Denon D2000 for a number of months now and am loving it, but the Markl mod has always intrigued me. I'm looking for some opinions from D2000 owners who have modded their cans. How does it change the sound? My complaints with the D2000 have been a recessed midrange and some sibilance. Does the Markl mod address these problems? Does it sound worse in any way? I know that part of the mod is irreversible so this makes me hesitant. I'm also wondering about the longevity of the cans, as the mod places additional mass on the internals.

I found that doing the Markl mod tightened the bass, and improved mids. However I think the J$ pads balance everything equally. The mod is fairly simple, and I would strongly recommend doing it because it's an all around improvement.

By "the mod is fairly simple", you mean the markl mod and not the J money pads, right? Did you do all steps of the mod? I'm definitely going to stuff the pads as that's reversibe, I'll probably do the others as well.

Both are really easy to do. I put dynamat on the cups and on the back of the drivers, but I didn't punch all those holes around the air passages, nor did I put fiberloft in the cups. Stuffing the earpads is an improvement, but it only puts you at about half the potential you get with the J$ pads. I was skeptical about J$ but they are a significant improvement over even the stuffed earpads. I can't really be too specific on the SQ pre-mod and post-mod since I did the mod a few days after I got my D2000, but on my first listen after doing the mod, I was definitely impressed by the change in sound. However that 'wow factor' only lasts so long once you get used to the new sound.

Thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna go through with the mod. Non recessed mids would be a great improvement. I'm also interested to see if anyone did the mod after extended experience with the stock Denon's, to see the extent of the changes.

The Mrakl mods work great for the sound all around. I did the diver assembly damping with the holes (I am not sure I would recommend not doing the holes) and the damping at the back of the driver magnet. There is a template here in the forum that helps great to cut all the necesary pieces for the mods.

Regarding the mids what brings them forward is the JMoney pads. Those to me are a must of all Denon owners.
