I remember back in 1996 when i went to a store to get my first discman.
I was keen on a good design and backlight display for nightuse.

I got in love with Technics SL-Xp600
Is very hard to find a good picture so i uploaded a photo from a old Technics cataloge.

I remember i told the store to order in before christmas
unfortunaly Panasonic keep telling me over and over again it was delayed
and I realized would i make it before christmas I have to get a different
this was sad cause i realy loved the design of this Discman

The stores showed me some cheaper Blue Panasonic but without backlight

Then I saw this Kenwood KPC-761 which i realy liked
Sure it was not as good as Technics but they could order it before christmas

The Discman had Backlight and played the Cd fine for what i was to use it for then
Train trips and conect to a boombox (I sold it when i got a Hifi with CDtray in 1998)
But unfortunaly it was not so good when jogging and even walking it skipped songs.

Today many things has changed
I no longer have or use a Hifi or boombox , the Display of a home stereo is remplaced
with a 23 inch alienware monitor conected to a Pc running winamp and itunes which i use to listen to music at home.
Outside I use Mp3 players.

But i still have the retro memory of grabbing and staring at a physical CD of my favorite band
reading the Songlyrics while listening to the songs on a Discman.

Now many years later I want to get a New Cd walkman (discman)
for those sunny days in the park when i feel retro and want to listen to a discman.
I plan to buy some Cds of my favorite bands.

Who is left producing CD walkmans Today, Only Sony?

I tried to look up Kenwood and panasonic but they seem to no longer be in Discman busniess

From Sony i could find this NF-340
But maybe is discontinued too cause the pricelist only meantion NF-241

I read Sony DEJ100 is good but probaly discontinued and harder to get in local store
i dont want to Ebay it or ordet it over internet want it in local store.

The Last Paper catalog I have from Kenwood is from 2005-2006
show DPC-X447, again probaly that one is hard to get in local store

So what should I get with good quality, what is avaible today in Local stores?
what is my best chances if not Ebaying?

My use:
- Play some CDs i buy
- If they can play cd-r and mp3 files is good too
- anti-skipping good buffer and so they dont scratch the Cds
- good sound (preferable not sound loudness limited)
- Black or blue (dont want silver color)
- Long battery life
- If it has backlight on LCD display is a plus but not easy to find now

Check out walmart. Worse case you can buy it online and get it shipped to the store. Some brands still out there is Sony, coby, memorex, and rca that I know of.

Nowaday, discman design for slim.  no more sound quality.

if you looking for sound quality discman, look for vintage discman produce before 1994.  etc.  Sony d321, d311, d303, d350, d555, d250...

If you will not use ebay for something like this, you are creating a hard time for yourself.
This kind of item is exactly the thing that ebay is good for.
If you don't like what you buy on ebay, for any reason or no reason, paypal will refund your money.
Ebay and Paypal's refund policies are extremely biased toward the buyer and any reason, or no reason, is good enough to get a refund.
It doesn't matter one bit what the seller's "refund policy" is. Ebay and Paypal disregard the "refund policy" of sellers.  There is no such thing as "no refunds" on ebay.
Sellers know this and almost never give you a hard time. Even if they give you trouble, open a case and you will win.  Guaranteed. Sellers know this too and that's why they won't argue.
Nowadays, all the risk is on the seller. There is no reason to be afraid to buy something on ebay.  It is much riskier to sell something on ebay than to buy something there.
Sellers know this also, and are leaving in droves due to being abused by buyers. Before long, only big sellers of cheap Chinese junk will be left.
But for now, you can still find vintage hi-fi equipment there that you can never find anywhere else.
I buy minidisc equipment on ebay all the time and I've never had a problem.

Got answer from the local sony store now
They have NF340 and NF241

There is no way to get Discmans that are older directly from Sony

Atleast those newer sony models are better than cheap Elbe discmans...
i will look around a bit more
