I've been having a hard time finding reviews on this CDP online and was wondering if anybody here owns one and/or has any impressions to give?

It looks like a pretty killer CDP for its price based on components and stats

It's based on the CD-99, with the addition of RCA inputs so you aren't forced to use it with the 99 preamp. The CDP-2 is a better put together machine (the two are not the same machine just one has digital inputs and a digital pre-amp, they're made of different parts beyond that too) although of course more expensive. Reviews I've read of the -S unit aren't nearly so favourable as they are for the -2.

The CDP-2 is out of my price range so I am more interested in how the CD-S is as a player, not in comparison to the other players in Quads line, and not in comparison to other CDPs which cost more.

What do you objectively think about it as a unit?

I wouldn't want to say more than I have. It'd be beyond my authority. Have you considered buying used or are you already thinking that way?
