Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread

For those of you that were approved for the beta when did you sign up for it? December? I’m still waiting and signed up first week of January.

I signed up on the 12th I think. Received the Welcome e-mail in about 10 days. Maybe you should sign up a second time, with a second email address if the system won't let you do that with the first one. They are no longer requiring people to fill out a questionnaire.

For Qobuz "Hi-Res" means at least 24/44.1 (Studio or Sublime+ plan.) If you subscribe to the $20/month Hi-Fi plan you get 16/44.1 (CD quality.)

Yes, received my invite, enjoying a bit of Sgt. Peppers atm. Quick question, for anyone using a Blusound Streamer, is there a way of determining the resolution? Additionally, with Qobuz, is “Hi Resolution” anything above CD quality?

Whoops, just read the definition of “Hi Rez” above, my apologies for asking a repetitive question.

Long time Tidal HiFi user here. Just received my activation email today. Good news is that the Studio version in IOS will output the full hi res stream via the apple lightning to usb camera adapter. Tapestry sounds amazing in 24/96 from my I-phone 6s+ into Mojo.

Bad news is that I’m getting dropouts when using it on A+ for Windows. Did the latency check on Latency Mon and have some bios issues I’m trying to resolve to reduce the clicks and dropouts.

No issues on A+ with Tidal, so I’m assuming the larger file sizes may be creating the issues.

@dbturbo2 if the dropouts are not caused by your local network or settings, it could just be the Qobuz USA beta network sagging under the weight of a large batch of new users onboarding all at once. I've seldom saw problems like on in over a year on the UK service, but have seen recent reports of issues during the US beta. I trust they'll get that balanced eventually. The clicks may be something else, so it would be helpful to know if they are related to sample rate changes, but who knows maybe all those problems will disappear on their own.

Appreciate your feedback! Did a ton of troubleshooting tonight - the bios update resolved the issues in latency mon so its saying I should be able to play music with no dropouts. Where the trouble began is when I moved from the 24/96 files, which I’ve also played in Tidal with no issues, to the 24/192 files. Dropouts and static clicks were apparent on all 24/192 tracks in the Quobuz web player, Quobuz PC app, A+, and to a slightly lesser extent in the iOS app.

Discovered something interesting regarding the Quobuz stated file resolutions since the lights on Mojo indicate the résolution received. When playing from an iOS device and selecting the highest stream setting of 24/192, the blue light on Mojo indicates that the correct resolution of 24/192 was received. On the web, pc apps, or A+ when you click to select Mojo as the output device and then choose your driver type you get different results. Choosing Wasapi or Direct results in a green light meaning a 24/96 file, even tho Quobuz states its sending 24/192. Only by choosing Wasapi Direct does Mojo receive the 24/192 file. Choosing the Asio option shows 24/192 received but sounds like a record played at half speed.

Not sure at this point if the issue is on my end or not. Running last years Alienware R4 laptop into Mojo via Curious USB cable and LCD-X phones.

Overall pretty happy with Qobuz vs tidal. Since I’m not a hip hop and rap fan the music is more in line with my tastes. Only issue I have is music discovery? Maybe I’m missing it but how can I bring up the top tracks and albums by genre? I would think this would pretty easy to set up. Or a billboard top playlist of top 100 tracks by genre? Or like Apple Music just a Qobuz playlist of top tracks or trending tracks by genre that is updated weekly? Surprised you basically need to search for every artist and track?

in the Qobuz apps, if you go into New Releases you'll find categories like "Top Releases" and "Still Trending". I prefer the categories in third-party streaming apps like UAPP and LMS/Squeezebox, where I see "Most Streamed", "Bestsellers" (downloads), and other lists which are not exactly the same in apps from Qobuz. I'm willing to bet Roon and A+ offer those too.

This is still a young and developing service, and maybe they're experimenting with those lists right now, but I hope they'll learn from what third-party licensees are still pulling from their own API. Meanwhile if all else fails, on the website you can sort the download store's bestsellers by genre. https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop

As I'm sure you know, you can use the genre filter in the desktop and web apps for New Releases and Playlists. But Qobuz is not a Top 40 kind of service, so their playlists tend to drill down deep into specific genres which is why there is a "Trending Singles" playlist for World, monthly "Jazzwise" playlists for Jazz, and other unique stuff but nothing related to Billboard. There are also user playlists that can be published on the web for public view, and those will launch the player app. For example, https://open.qobuz.com/playlist/1911074 I hope these will be further integrated directly into the app in the future.
