The Qables “Silvercab cable”.

After due consideration and many hours of testing during the course of last year I decided that I would have my cable professionally manufactured instead of the hand winding that I used to apply.
The reason for this is that an industrial process would give a better control of the tolerances of the specific required mechanics of my cable. The hand winding process did not give me the control of the mechanical tolerances that I wanted.

The balanced winding method that I have been applying so far has been derived from the socalled “Venhaus” technique, to be found here: http://www.venhaus1.com/diysilverinterconnects.html

I build my first interconnects using this method about 1,5-2 years ago but I found them sounding ‘weak’ to my taste. The impression was they could be improved and after much reading on different cable techniques I started to adapt this technique on different area's. This process lead to my recent balanced winding technique and the monofilament core structure that from now on I am having manufactured by a professional cable company.
I have named the cable brand: Silvercab and have it supported by its own logo:

The Silvercab cable is a construction of three solid core silver (0,4mm and 99,99%) conductors. One conductor is extruded in a PE insulation, this forms the straight centre core of the cable. I have chosen PE as dielectric for this has nearly the same dielectric constant (ε) as PTFE (2.26 against 2.1 [compare: vacuum = 1, Wool = 1.8, PS = 2.6, PVC = 2.9, ABS = 2.8-3.8]) but it is far more easier to process during manufacturing and it is much more flexible.
Around this centre core comes a woven jacket of 16 strands. 2 of these strands are the other 2 silver conductors and the other 14 are wool-glass fibre.
The strands and the conductors are fitted so that the distance between the conductors is exactly 1/3rd against the distance between consecutive turns 2/3rd . I have found this to give the best sound performance and electrical characteristics to the cable.
The whole is then fitted with a rubber compound jacket and the cable is then covered by a braided Techflex sleeve.
Please find here some 3D images of the mechanics of the Silvercab:

Every cable comes in a unique design packaging (also meant to protect the cable during transportation and to identify the uniqueness of this cable line).

All interconnects as offered on my website will be from now on be fitted with the Silvercab cable*.
* This does not apply for the Performance line for which we use an own designed three core twisted cable.

I hope this new development will add another dimension to our already great and interesting HiFi hobby.

Thanks for your interest.

How!! Looks great Hans!!

I am really happy for you because you've made your hobby into a very nice business! I like the way you invested in your website and developing new looks for the ipod cables. With this new cable you are starting to develop new techiniques and products! That new cable looks very interesting and those 3D images are an absolute eye teaser!!

Good luck to you and Qables in this new year!

ps: will you be selling your wire to us, friendly DIYers?

Hi Hans! I just ordered myself a neon blue 7 3/4" iPod dock cable from your site (about 4 hrs ago). Will my cable feature the new Silver Cab construction?
Thanks! Sarah

Also Happy New year to all of you!

Well I will not be selling the cable for DIY as of yet. I have it reserved for my own cables for at least a couple of months. After this I will start to sell it but for now it is exclusive for my own cables.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for your continuing support, Yes your cable will feature the new cable! I hope you will be happy wth it.
I will build it today or tomorrow and ship it before this weekend.

I have just returned home so I have some backlog to clear today and tomorrow.

Rgds

I have had some questions about the Silvercab and Performance line cables lately so I thought it better to post some more clarification here.

Qables does not just use somebody else his cable, like a third party cable brand to build its Silvercab or Performance Line interconnects.

Both the 'Silvercab' and 'Performance Line' cables are manufactured solely for Qables. I have indeed really invested the time and the money to 'get my own cables' to build my interconnects. They are both manufactured by a small specialised European company that is highly specialised in the manufacturing of special design extruded and/or woven cables.

When you buy a Silvercab or Performance Line interconnect, you can rest assured that you have a unique piece of cable in your hands that can only be purchased at Qables.com!

Thanks for your interest.
