Hey guys my q40s are on the verge of collapse so I was wondering how are the xb700s in comparison

XB700 can't compare IMO to Q40 other than comfort where XB700 is excellent.

Well there's a lot less texture and punch in the bass on XB700, the bass on XB700 goes very deep though but it stays rather soft in the impact, much more so than on Q40 and it's a bit everywhere where it doesn't belong too. Bass on Q40 is a lot more controlled, punchy with harder hitting bass (no not more bass, probably slightly less quantity wise but impact-wise Q40 has more). The mids are also a bit more recessed on XB700 and the highs are very slightly more sparkly (very slightly emphasized), V-shape sound signature.
 
There's more microdetail in the midrange on Q40, handles acoustic much more better with better definition and better transparency/instrument separation.
