If you really must have active noise cancelling, then these are pretty good.
We have the PXC 150, bought them in a sale, not as good in terms of bass or top end clarity as the PCX250 which to my ears are sweet. They even work when the battery fails.
We also have the HD280pro which although not active noise cancelling, is actually better at blocking noises than the active ones. SQ is also better then the PXC250.
We also have the CX300 canal phones.
In terms of reduction of unwanted noises and ability to play at low volumes even in loud environments, the following is ranked from the cans that we have
1 HD280 pro
little step
2 CX300
Bigger step
3 PXC 150
Huge leap
4 Grado SR60

We have compared the CX300 and the HD280 pro many times with the QC 2 /3 from Bose and they both have better noise reduction properties across all frequencies. They both have less muddy bass and cleaner mids than the the Bose as well.
that's quite shocking to me... i though the bose QC3 is really good (coz they are bloody expensive=.=")
I think i'll go for PXC-300 then...
or PXC-250? (just a little bit cheaper)
