Is there a trick to it, or do you just push them straight in? I think I figured it out (I needed the small flanges), but I'm just wondering if there's any special way to push them in, twisting or anything.

I just put them straight in and give them a slight turn to get the wire into the right position.

Just push them in. Nothing tricky like Etys or Shures. The strain relief sleeve on the cable should fit right in the little gap between two protrusions right above the earlobe.
