I've searched and can't seem to figure it out. Is this spring on all high(ish) end headphones? M-50's are my first pair of decently nice headphones, and I was just wondering what the purpose is. (I am referring to the spring coming out of the metal stereo jack piece insulating an inch or so of the cable.)

it helps to protect the cable from bending and breaking. To relieve the stressed parts of the cable. Previous post made me laugh
