I have just bought an i20 as a dock with the CLEAN digital-out being the most important thing for me.

So - as I understand it - the dock takes ONLY the digital signal from an ipod (etc) and then uses its own onboard DAC to provide a superior signal!

I have my iPod in the dock, and am using the digital out of the i-20 going into my amp - but when I change the EQ on the iPod - the sound coming out of the amp changes accordingly - how the hell can that be correct if all that is read by the i-20 is the digital signal???

An amp would not be able to process digital signal, you would need DAC for that. Now, are you feeding digital signal (optical or coax) to a DAC or you are feeding analogue signal (3.5 mm TRS or red and white RCA) to an amp?

iPod EQ is essentially DSP (digital signal processing), meaning the altering of digital audio signal. So the digital output is supposed to be different when you apply DSP.
