profanity = a word which is offensive in reference to a particular deity. goddammit, for instance. i generally reserve those for use around those who would be particularly horrified.

vulgarity = a word which is culturally base or unacceptable, like a-sshole. i'm probably about a 7 or 8.

While we're talking about this, how bad of a word is 'bollocks'? lol, I live in the US, and therefore have never heard anyone say it in person. Only movies. Does it compare to, say, the s-word? Or not as bad?
