What TV do you have? If you don't want to tell me, I can't look up specifics about it and possibly help with seeing what picture settings it has for Dolby Vision. So we'll just have to leave it there. If you enjoy the settings for your TV, great. The only thing I ask is that you don't generalize with others how HDR10 or Dolby Vision looks, when we have different picture settings (and some have gone through full video calibrations).

Edit to your edit on TV. OK, looking up Hisense 8K on rtings (they're a good site for reviews and TV settings), they indicate that picture modes change between HDR or Dolby Vision content (and they give their recommended picture settings).

You have to turn on Dolby Vision in the menus every time you want to use it. When you insert a disk with Dolby Vision, it appears in the menu, but it isn't turned on by default. It defaults to the picture mode you've specified for that input.

The soundbar is Hisense U5120G. It does something weird with DTS. I think if you turn on DTS, it overrides Atmos upscaling.

DTS mode = DTS:X (native object based 3D audio) or DTS Neural:X (upconverted 3D from 2.1/5.1/7.1 audio).
Atmos mode = Atmos (native object based 3D audio) or Dolby Surround (upconverted 3D from 2.1/5.1/7.1 audio).
Again, in DTS mode, it will upconvert 2.1/5.1/7.1 (or that stream from a Dolby Atmos sound track).

Update: I’m getting more of the rear channel effect now. I moved my chair forward about 10 inches to line up with a table, and it started working better. Off axis listening with my 5.1 system still maintains directionality, but with the sound bounced off the ceiling and walls with my sound bar, the sweet spot is very small. The rear channel effect comes from a generalized direction, not from left and right like my 5.1 system… more like the rear channel in Dolby Stereo. That’s good enough for a bedroom. It’s interesting how many TV commercials have rear channel content.

looks like you are getting a lot out of an affordable sound bar. i use bose, easy plug n play. not to bad in the sound throwing but the only other bar i tried was yamaha. that threw the sound miraculously. however wasn't compatible with ps3, yes that's how long ago...so bose it is.
i have a bose 321 lifestyle system in the basement tv. old school room analyzer stuff. but still works fine, wires everywhere, grief
