Hi.

I've got a Sony NW-HD5 Atrac3 player.

I only listen to classical music, so there is no need for me to buy any head-/earphones that have too much of bass.

I'm really satisfied with the Sony MDR 931 LP earphones. The sound is warm and very pleasing to my ears.

Connecting the player to my Senheiser HD 595, 600 or 650 is the best way, to listen to music.

But it's a portable device, so I do not want to walk around here in Heidelberg having the HD 650 on.

Until now I've never tried to listen to music using the CX 300.
I've read in some audio magazines here in Germany, that the CX 300 is one of the best earphones ever made. Well... I had to buy some, to experience this for myself.

I'm very disappointed. Maybe my CX 300 are some what we call here "Montagsgerät"... the sound is very crappy. There is a lot of background noise, nearly no bass, sharp highs... I've really plugged it in many ways into my ears... the sound shows always some differences, sometimes nearly good, but it is not that, what I would call really good or even great.

The Sony earphones I've mentioned above, are better... yes, I would say much better...

Has anyone experienced the same? Is there something, that I do wrong using the CX 300?

Thanks for every answer.

Yes, this is exactly the same thing I experience. I thought I was the only one, since everyone seems to praise these earphones. I decided to return mines today and get something else.

1. the cx300 is actually one of the cheapest IEMs available, and far from the best.

2. However, they do sound alright on an entry level and are known for their strong bass. If you are not getting the bass, it's very likely you're not getting the necessary seal in your ear canal. Try the large tips. You'll know you get a seal when theres' a little pop, and suddenly outside noise is gone, every tap on the wire is loud, and the bass is strong.

good luck, FV

I doubt its the seal. I've been using the SONY EX71, and I feel tremendous bass from those. So I tried using those tips on my CX300, but same result. Bass is not as strong as my EX71, and mids/highs sound extremely hollow.
