I have a question for you guys in hopes that someone can help me out. I have a pair of denon's d2000 and I enjoy the headphones, but compared with my other cans (RS2 and AKG 701) I rarely seem to use them. Don't get me wrong, I like the denon's and I think they have their place with some harder Rock music and rap/hip-hop, which I do listen to sometimes.
I also love the fact that they are closed, and that they *can* be powered by an ipod and still are listenable.

But here's the thing...the cord on them annoys the hell out of me. I leave these on the rack simply based on this fact alone!
2nd - they just don't sound as good as my other phones. I think if the bass was a bit more controlled and there was a little more air, I would love these phones.

so I'm looking for suggestions:
-I can markl mod these headphones, and buy some wooden cups from lawton audio and have them re-cabled, but that'll cost me an arm and a leg (is it really worth it?)
-I can buy a d5000 or d7000 if this will correct the issues I have?
-is there another closed can alternative anyone can suggest? (I'm totally unfamiliar with beyer and audio technica)

Thanks!

I'm considering buying these, what exactly makes the cord so annoying?

I have owned the D2000 stock, D5000 stock. I own a woodied, markl moded and recabled D2000 and D7000.

At the end I think the most cost effective and sound effective option is the D7000 specially if you markl mod them and replace the pad with the JMoney pads.

Too bad this is the case. I was thinking of getting the D2000 as my next set of cans. The D7000 are just too expensive for me now.

don't get me wrong, these are good sounding cans. Please read that my complaints are as such:

1) they don't compare to higher end headphones (DUH right?)
2) I'm willing to modify them to give the sound signature I"m looking for, but the cable tangles too much for my liking (I dont like moving around with these headphones on) so it will cost me a small fortune (wood cups =230, recable = at least 100, markl mod = 140 I believe) . Would I be better off moving up the line?
