Hello,

I found one like this on the street the other day. Decided to pick it up, as I have heard it produces pretty good sound

Unfortunatelly disc would spin and play, but would skip a second or two from time to time.
I got a new laser module for it (KSS-210A); replaced the old one with the new one, and... disc would not spin anymore!

any idea what could have happened and how to fix it?
cheers
all the best!

Did you remove the solder link on the new laser? Instructions HERE

Also make sure the rails the laser sled rides on are clean of old grease and re-lubricate with a little light grease.

If that doesn't work, your next replacement part would be the spindle motor. Once they a little older and more tired, their ability to adapt correctly to speed changes just doesn't work well. Depending on the machine, they can be a little challenging to change, but will definitely give you quite a few more years on the machine once done.
