Problem with Fiio E17

Hi,
 
I was wondering why my E17 always shows the audio being played at 48k/16bit no matter what source file I play. i.e:- 128, 320 or 800 kbps, FLAC or MP3. If so, what's the point of that display? Or maybe it only works for SPDIF connection? I use the USB connection. Thanks.

I was able to change the display to 96k/24bit in windows 7 (control panel > hardware and sound > sound > E17). But I do not see any influence of this in SQ. Could someone explain what is the use of this display?

Does the E17 also show 96k/24bit after the change?

yes, it does display 96k/24 bit
