Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital Impression Thread

Sorry @naum I did not see your post until I was quoted above. Some S2D owners are using cheap China LPS units capable of up to 25W with no problem. So that's certainly a possible choice, as long as the unit is of good quality. Quality concerns are why I narrowed my choices to locally imported units designed to output exactly 1A, but that's just me. I look forward to seeing your report if you purchase that one.

Two questions:
1. So which setting in Tidal would you chose.... I would think passthrough "on" for hardware and software decoding done completely in the Pre Box S2 Digital, it should work with passthrough turned "off" as well with the Pre Box only doing the software side. I took a look at the Pre Box S2 Digital at RMAF 18 this year but they did not have any to buy at the show... just trying to get my mind around how the box works... thanks.
2. The RCA outputs, do they output MQA decoded signal?

1. Turn on passthrough, force volume, and exclusive mode. All decoding will be done in the Pre Box S2D. If you turn passthrough off, you'll only get 1x unfolding.

2. Yes, the RCA outputs provide a decoded MQA signal.

The reason I asked about the RCA is because I would like to use those to run to my, garage1217 Project Ember.

Great to hear! How are you using it? Headphones (which ones), external headphone amp? USB, optical? MQA? With / without PSU (I don't bother with external PSU - I find USB powering is just as good)?
USB powered to my laptop. Mainly using it to drive the K712 Pros and as a DAC for active speakers. I did test it with an external PSU and USB, but didn't notice any difference. It drives the AKG's very well without an external headphone amp, I'm usually more than fine with -20 to -30 dB volume.

Found this but looks like it has too much roll off for me using that filter.
