hmm : D, would a portable amp suffice? Like a 100$ one?

You can get a mini 3 in the fs forum for $100, so I'd say 'yes'.
I wouldn't go near any commercial offering in that price range.
I own the Pro900 and imo they are excellent somewhat bass heavy phones.

They SA-5000 is very very good for electronic music IF you don't need your bass to dominate. Like others have said, this is a very "fast" headphone and it gives a great sense of the bass rhythm. But if you like overwhelming bass it's not for you. I don't know about the Pro 900, but the SA5K runs fine out of a computer soundcard (as compared to my headphone amp).

The SA5K seems to sound fine straight out of my ipod.

Hmm, so the SA5000's seem like the safer bet, although i like the idea of the really strong bass the PRO-900's give. Still a little confused though...

Honestly I see it like this... if you want more high-end sizzle get the Sony SA5000s, if you want more detailed bass get the Ultrasones. They are both extremely detailed and require a decent amp/DAC as they're also quite revealing. For electronica/techno/dance I'd definitely favor the Ultrasones, for everything else the Sonys.

could the iBasso D2+ Boa AMP/DAC power the PRO 900's sufficently? If not, what under 200$ could?
