What would you choose as the next midfi/best bang/best all rounder for your buck classic?
Currently people keep saying its the hd600/650,

what do you think will be the next classic? what qualities does the headphone that you chose possess that caused you to pick that headphone?

Let's say the HD600/650 and 880 went out of production. What would you choose to be the next midfi trio?

If headphones, as fine as these, go out of production, that would mean there's a significant improvement on the current technology, in which case HD800, T1, HE500/560 might become midfi, giving the lead to the new stuff they make. With the introduction of graphene and other new materials into audio, this might be possible.

I'd say the K701/Q701/K702/K7XX are noticably superior to the HD650 in sound, and on par or better in sound to the HD600/DT880.  And superior to them all in soundstage.

The HD700 and EL8 are markedly worse than the HD600/650.  The K712 is too close to the K701 to be thought of separately if you're going to lump the 600 and 650 together.  HiFiMan doesn't keep their models in production long enough for the 400i to attain "classic" status.  The AD2000x will likely continue the AT trend of small cult followings despite it's better international distribution.

IF they stay in production long enough the Philips Fidelio X2 have a shot at it.
