Does anyone use their preamp for headphone listening rather than a dedicated headphone amp? Is a headphone amp really just a passive preamp? I just bought a new (active) preamp for my speaker rig and tried the headphone out on it. I have to say that is sounded as good or better than my Meta42 headphone amp - even when I bypassed all of the tonal controls. Maybe one of you techy guys could help me sort out the differences.
