I've currently got the Magni 2 and Modi 2.
I was wanting to run a sys to my receiver for my speakers and use the sys as a preamp/switch to change from my Magni to Receiver. Is running a preamp to the Magni a good thing? What might it complicate?

All you'd need to do is increase the volume of the SYS to maximum when you switch to the Magni 2, if you want to use the latter as you normally would. (I've owned all the same Schiit and still use the SYS.) The SYS is a passive preamp with no electronics, so it won't alter the sound. The main downside is that it can make soft scratching sounds when adjusting the volume, which is common for cheap equipment with volume knobs.
